Kia has received the prestigious Good Design® Award 2024 from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design for Kia E-Ground, the first Sustainable Mobility Experience Center from Kia in Latin America. This award recognizes Kia’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and design excellence, reinforcing Kia’s leadership in the transition to sustainable mobility.
What is Kia E-Ground?Located in Quito, Ecuador, Kia E-Ground is a 1,400 m² experiential hub designed to bring Kia’s global vision for sustainable mobility to life. The center reflects Kia’s design philosophy, “Opposites United,” harmonizing nature and technology through an immersive experience.
Through this initiative, Kia seeks to inspire countries across Central and South America to accelerate their shift toward electromobility, while reinforcing Kia’s ambition to become a leading provider of sustainable mobility solutions.
“We are honored to receive the Good Design® Award for Kia E-Ground,” said Steve Lee, President, Kia Central and South America. “This project symbolizes progress, innovation, and our commitment to advancing sustainable mobility. Kia E-Ground will help shape the future of transportation in Latin America.”
How does Kia E-Ground engage and educate visitors?Kia E-Ground’s architectural concept draws inspiration from the Fibonacci sequence, a natural pattern that guides visitors through three interactive zones that support learning and promote sustainability:
- Planet Zone – environmental awareness and ecosystem balance
- Energy Zone – electrification and energy-efficiency technologies
- Mobility Zone – Kia’s electric vehicles and Purpose-Built Vehicles (PBVs)
At the heart of the space, a sculptural white tree with circular LED lighting symbolizes the connection between innovation and environmental stewardship.
How does the center’s design support sustainability?Every element of Kia E-Ground reflects a sustainable approach:
- Eco Bricks with 25% lower CO₂ emissions
- ECOPact concrete, which reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 50%
- Pavegen kinetic tiles generating clean energy from footsteps
- LED lighting, solar panels, and rainwater reuse systems
These features demonstrate Kia’s commitment to reducing environmental impact while creating an engaging, educational space.
How is Kia supporting regional development in Central and South America?Kia E-Ground represents a strategic milestone for Kia in the region. The center’s location near major universities allows it to function as a platform for education, collaboration, and real-world application, hosting workshops and interactive programs aimed at inspiring the next generation of sustainability leaders.
“Receiving the Good Design® Award for Kia E-Ground is a proud moment for us,” said Fiorella Farje, Head of Marketing, Kia Central and South America. “This project reflects Kia’s vision of sustainable mobility and our commitment to creating meaningful experiences for communities in Latin America.”
