Sorento backs up for a Drive three-peat

Kia's multi-award winning Sorento has seen off yet another quality field of challengers to claim top honours as Best SUV Over $40,000 in Drive's annual Car Of The Year awards for the third year running.

As defending champion the Sorento SLi diesel took on finalists from Porsche, BMW and Toyota to emerge triumphant in one of the most competitive segments in the Australian new car market.

"In a year that was dictated by rapid changes in the automotive industry, the Kia Sorento SLi retains its position as Drive's best SUV over $40,000 for the third year in succession on the strength of its all-round, family friendly qualities," said Drive's national editor, Andrew MacLean.

The Drive judging panel praised the Sorento for its generous use of space, efficient and smooth turbo diesel powertrain, good overall dynamics and its level of equipment.

"What sealed the deal beyond its value is the peace of mind offered by a benchmark seven-year warranty period and affordable servicing costs," the judges said. "It is an honest, seven-seat family car that is well suited to our local conditions and requirements."

Kia Motors Australia Chief Operating Officer Damien Meredith said the three-in-a-row success of the Sorento was an outstanding recognition of the model and the brand.

"To have been able to win such a prestigious award three times in a row _ and against such a quality field of finalists _ is clear proof that Kia can stand up against anything in the new car market," Mr Meredith said.

"It is an endorsement of not only the Sorento but of the Kia brand and the attention to detail and value that Kia offers its customers right across the range."

Kia dealers are currently offering the Sorento with a stylish Family Pack that adds $3400 in value at no additional cost. The Family Pack consisting of alloy nudge bar, side steps, tow bar kit, cargo mat, floor mats and weather shield set, will come standard with all Sorento models across the full model range.
